Bangladesh Squad for the World Cup 2019: ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

As the World Cup inches nearer and nearer, it’s time for the teams involved to reveal the names of players who will represent them in this year’s epic tournament. Three teams have already unveiled their squads namely Australia, New Zealand and India. But now news is coming in that Bangladesh have announced their picks for the event as well. This makes them the fourth team to do so. The announcement was made by their chief selectors early in the morning at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Bangladesh will play their first match against South Africa on 2nd June at the Oval so it’s an uphill battle for them from the start.

Bangladesh Final Picks:

It comes as a surprise that Bangladesh would name their squad earlier than some top ranked nations like England or South Africa. But with the event right around the corner, it’s a smart move to name the squad as soon as possible so the selected players know that they have big a big responsibility on their shoulders. Bangladesh have picked up a balanced squad whose players’ names are given below:

  1. Tamim Iqbal
  2. Soumya Sarkar
  3. Sabbir Rahman
  4. Mohammad Mithun
  5. Mahmudullah
  6. Mohammad Saifuddin
  7. Mashrafe Mortaza (c)
  8. Mehidy Hasan
  9. Abu Jayed
  10. Mosaddek Hossain
  11. Shakib Al Hasan
  12. Liton Das (wk)
  13. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)
  14. Rubel Hossain
  15. Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh squad is more leaning towards all-rounder talent which can be a problem for them because they only have two specialist bowlers to their side: Rubel Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman. They should’ve gone with 4 all-rounders instead of 7. They do however, have a strong batting line-up so chasing targets will be relatively easier.

Bangladesh’s all matches against teams in ICC World Cup 2019

  2. Bangladesh vs New Zealand, Match 9, Wednesday 5 June
  3. England vs Bangladesh, Match 12, Saturday 8 June
  4. Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, Match 16, Tuesday 11 June
  5. West Indies vs Bangladesh, Match 23, Monday 17 June
  6. Australia vs Bangladesh, Match 26, Thursday 20 June
  7. Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, Match 31, Monday 24 June
  8. Bangladesh vs India, Math 40, Tuesday 2 July
  9. Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Match 43, Friday 5 July

Winning Chances:

Bangladesh may not have the best bowling line-up but their all-rounders have all the skills to pick up wickets in the match. Bangladesh have not been performing well since Asia Cup 2018. They suffered a massive defeat at the hands of NZ. They better find their form fast in order to win matches at the grand stage. With a lack of specialist bowlers, it seems like Bangladesh will struggle throughout the tournament. They may be able to beat some of the smaller teams like Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies but they’ll desperately feel the absence of a good bowling attack when they are up against the top ranked teams like England and India. With the current squad announced, it’s impossible to alter these names but Bangladesh should’ve picked at least two other specialist bowlers.
