England’s soil is once again hosting this mega event and all the preparations for the WC are of world class standard. England recently also hosted ICC champion’s trophy that the unpredictable Pakistan cricket team won comprehensively. Speaking of Pakistan’s cricket team, then after the inclusion of Mickey Arthur in the coaching staff, this team has been doing really great in the white ball cricket and has produced a lot of good white ball cricketers.

The most recent ICC world event i.e. champions trophy was won by Pakistan, as usual they had a bumpy start to the competition but once they gained momentum they overcame every obstacle and won the event. World cup squad announcement will be done by PCB after the Australia Pakistan ODI series but mostly the names would remain the same like Fakhar zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz (captain), Babar Azam , Faheem Ashraf, Shadab khan, Shaheen Shah, Muhammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Asif Ali and Shoaib Malik. Pakistan’s cricket comprises of some quality young talent, that had been their strength in the ICC champions trophy as well which was hosted at the same venue.

History in the Previous ICC Cricket WorldCup

Pakistan cricket team has won 1 ICC ODI world cup (1992), 1 t-20 world cup (2009) and one ICC Champions trophy (2017), it has also been the finalist in ICC WC 1999. So it is a lethal force in the ICC world events and it’s going to be the same this time around as well. They are never considered as favorites, they always start as the underdogs and they have labelled as the most unpredictable team in the cricket world cause one minute they are on the top of their game but the second minute they collapse. They have devastated stronger cricket teams many times in the past as well hence the tag “unpredictable”.

Pakistan’s cricket team has been relying on their lethal pace attack for decades now, they have created the likes of the great Imran khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Amir etc. which have dominated the batting line ups with their extravagant swing and pace. This time around its nothing different in this world cup 2019, Pakistan again has a great pace attack in its arsenal which will be a great threat for the opposing batting line ups. Fielding which has been a weak spot for Pakistan cricket team in the past but it has improved by leaps and bounds under the supervision of Grant Bradburn the Pakistan’s cricket team’s fielding coach and now they are one of the finest fielding sides in the world cricket right now.

Team Combination and Emerging Talent

Since the ICC champion’s trophy Pakistan’s side hasn’t changed much and mostly the same players have been playing and cementing their places through performances. Some new inductees might be there in the world cup 2019 squad depending upon the domestic performance and the performances into the HBL PSL. Pakistan super league (PSL) has proven to be a gold mine for the Pakistan cricket team because of PSL new talent has surfaced and it has benefitted Pakistan side in the international matches.

Cricket world cup 2019 comprises of top ten teams in ICC cricket team ratings, it’s a very competitive tournament. England venues have proven to be a good hunting ground for Pakistan in the ICC world events because 2009 t-20 WC and ICC Champions trophy 2017 was won by Pakistan on the same venues. Pakistan has fortified their opening slots and middle order by the inclusion of Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam. These 3 top order batsmen are averaging in the 50’s in the ODI internationals hence proving that the Pakistan batting order has entered a new era. Fakhar zaman just recently scored a double ton in ODI’s and Babar Azam has been Mr. consistent for Pakistan and is currently present on the top 5 ODI batsmen in the world cricket. Sarfaraz Ahmad has been a lively and jubilant captain for the Pakistan for the last few years. He is known to be very vocal and lively in the field, but he’s been producing results in the field and that matters the most.

New Management and Coaching Staff

After the inclusion of Mickey Arthur Pakistan team has taken a glide upwards towards good performances. Mickey Arthur has been very strict regarding the fitness level of the team, he has certainly raised the bar for the fitness level. In his tenure Hasan Ali got the best score overall in the world in the yo-yo fitness test. This proves that he is adamant in improving the players’ fitness level and is not willing to compromise on that very stance, this in the longer run has benefitted Pakistan cricket team very much as they have become a very good fielding side as a result of this. In this 2019 WC Pakistan is as usual not starting as the favorite but as an underdog but teams recent performances on the shorter format have proven that they are not to be taken lightly.

Recent changes in the PCB management has brought about new ideas to the table and they are cooperating with the selection committee along with the coaching staff so that the best squad is sent to the World cup. Pakistan is eager to perform well again in England and in the world cup as well, if this team can gain momentum and can get their batting order to click then undoubtedly they will be one of the strongest teams in the event. Just before the world cup they have 5 match ODI against England team in England which will be very fruitful for their campaign as it will help them get settled with the environment just before the big tournament. Hasan Ali the man of the tournament for his bowling performance in ICC Champions trophy is also the part of this squad, he has taken a liking to the British soil and pitches. Along with Amir and Shaheen shah they will be a lethal bowling attack.

Pakistan will look to keep up their good performance in the world cricket, they will surely look to play the final of the WC 2019. A point to ponder once again the world cup 2019 is in Ramadan Kareem, Pakistan’s lucky charm as the 1992 WC and Champions trophy 2017 was also won in the month of Ramadan. Pakistan is shaping up its team on merit and performance and is aiming the win in WC 2019.
